Lean Startup Essentials

Lean Startup

It seems everywhere you turn lately, blogs, panels, VCs, conferences, everyone is talking about lean startup methodologies.  For the uninitiated, please allow me to provide some basics on what it means to Lean startup companies everywhere.
Startups don't fail as a results of the technology doesn't work. They fail as a results of nobody wishes what they are trying to create. The vision of the Lean Startup assures a coherent direction despite many progressive changes to the merchandise thought. At intervals the absence of a strong vision, progressive changes may steer the merchandise thought into a random direction.
Fast forward to the post-internet bubble years and you'd find Innovify, who later coined the term Lean Startup UK.  Ries is a Stanford graduate and former student of Steve Blank was "determined to make new mistakes".  Instead of following the traditional model of perfecting a product, launching it and hoping that "if you build it, they will come." Ries and his co-founders took a new approach that utilized "an extremely fast cycle time, a focus on what customers want, and a scientific approach to making decisions" – that is, Lean Startup!

Lean Startup
Rise' five principles of Lean Startup are:
Entrepreneurs are everywhere:  A Lean Startup is a human institution designed to create new products and services under conditions of extreme uncertainty.

Entrepreneurship is management:  A  Lean startup is an institution, not just a product, and so it requires a new kind of management, specifically geared to its context of extreme uncertainty.

Validated learning:  Lean Startups exist to learn how to build a sustainable business – validated learning by running frequent experiments to test each element of the vision.

Build – Measure – Learn:  The fundamental activity is to turn ideas into products, measure how customers respond, and learn whether to pivot or persevere.

Innovation accounting:  Focus on the boring stuff – how to measure progress, set up milestones, and prioritize work.

Principles focus on quickly building many versions of a product and testing each one by "getting out of the building" and talking with real prospective customers.  This process continues until you determine to persevere.  If you like more details pick up a copy of "The Lean Startup" by Innovify
